About Tomlinson’s

From a Hot Dog Stand to a Bridgeport Landmark

Tomlinson’s Restaurant began as a small hot dog stand at Seaside Park in Bridgeport, Connecticut in the 1930s, founded by Harry Tomlinson. Business thrived, and by the early 1940s Harry moved the stand to its current home at Noble Avenue and Concord Street — right across from the busy GE factory that ran three shifts during World War II.

A Greek Legacy Begins

After Harry’s passing in 1947, the business was purchased by Platon Vlamis, a Greek immigrant who decided to keep the Tomlinson’s name. Locals quickly gave it a new nickname — “The Greeks” — inspired by the thick Greek accents of the staff working the stand.
Even now, decades later, many loyal customers still affectionately call it that.

Rain or Shine, the Line Never Stopped

Tomlinson’s became known for great food, fast service, and unbeatable consistency. It wasn’t unusual to see long lines wrapped around the stand — even in the rain or snow. For generations of Bridgeport residents, Tomlinson’s wasn’t just a place to eat; it was a tradition.

A New Era for a Classic Name

When Platon passed in 1986, his sons Nicholas and Constantinos took over, determined to carry on the family legacy. Under their leadership, Tomlinson’s evolved in both menu and appearance while keeping its roots intact.

From Stand to Full-Size Restaurant

In 1995, the city’s Planning and Zoning Department granted permission for Tomlinson’s to expand into a full-service restaurant. Construction began in 1998, and on November 11, 1999, the new Tomlinson’s Restaurant officially opened — now featuring a larger menu and a convenient drive-thru.

Still Serving What Made Us Famous

Today, Tomlinson’s offers a wide variety of food — from hot dogs and burgers to seafood, breakfast, and more — but our core promise remains the same:
Great food. Fast service. Honest value.

Because some things never go out of style.
